Salisbury Jones Planning was established by George Vasdekys in 1995. It became a Partnership in 2002 when Myra Barnes joined the practice. We provide advice and guidance to a variety of clients ranging from Private Companies (large and small) to Public Sector Organizations such as Local Authorities and NHS Trusts. Our clientele has also included private individuals as well as Residents Associations.
Most developments need planning permission. At the outset it is important to assess the likelihood of obtaining planning permission. In so doing, assessment of risk can be evaluated and abortive costs avoided or minimized. We are Chartered Town Planners and have the knowledge and experience to advise clients on such matters.
Local Authorities have a statutory duty to consider and to appraise all planning applications against their Development Plans. It is important that landowners, be they private individuals, development companies or developers are aware of what the Plans for their area say and how they can influence them. At Salisbury Jones Planning we pride ourselves on our ability to negotiate and obtain permission through the normal application process or at appeal, where necessary.
We have a good track record in obtaining planning permission for a wide range of commercial, residential, leisure and community developments as well as in influencing the plan making process to secure allocations for our clients. We work closely with a number of related professionals in the development industry particularly architects, highways consultants, landscape architects, ecologists and engineers.
Myra Barnes is a Planning Consultant with extensive knowledge and understanding of the British planning system and in particular large redevelopment schemes. Her particular experience and expertise is in the regeneration of complex major brownfield projects for a mix of uses. She has had 14 years experience as a Planning Officer in the Public Sector working for Local Authorities including Surrey County Council and the London Borough of Southwark followed by the London Docklands Development Corporation (LDDC). She gained experience in both the development plan and development control process, as well as working as Assistant to the Chief Executive at the LDDC, which entailed a wide ranging portfolio of work both planning and development related. She joined the private sector in 1988 working for Olympia & York, initially on the redevelopment of Canary Wharf and then on other schemes, notably Heron Quays and Port East. Her role was that of giving planning advice on all aspects of Olympia & York’s work, in particular relating to the masterplanning and negotiation of the agreements with the Local Authorities, including design guidelines. Providing strategic planning advice Coordination of Planning Applications and Environmental Statements for major developments including retail, residential, employment and public utilities uses, eg LNG importation terminal Development Plan Representations Briefing, appointment of and managing consultants in multi-disciplinary professional teams Advising on the planning implications of surplus land and a strategy for progressing its economically viable redevelopment Negotiations with Senior Local Authority Officers/Councillors/Community Groups on Planning related matters and has negotiated numerous Section 106 Agreements.
George Vasdekys is a Planning Consultant with a wide-ranging knowledge and understanding of the British planning system and extensive Public Inquiry experience. His particular experience and expertise is in business, residential and Health Care developments. He qualified as a Chartered Town Planner in 1978. He had 14 years experience as a Planning Officer in Local Authorities including The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, South Bucks DC, and the London Boroughs of Hounslow, Croydon and Merton. He gained particular knowledge and experience at a senior level of the development control process, as well as managing staff and resources, having achieved the position of Deputy Group Leader of the Development Control Section at LB Merton. He entered private practice in 1988, firstly as Senior Planner at Grant and Partners and subsequently as Associate Director heading the Planning Department of this multidisciplinary property practice. He was responsible for a team of professional planners and support staff handling major planning applications and appeals, environmental statements and a full range of Enquiries and Hearings.
